The*SkyGuide: Asteroid Apophis Risk Update

I’m passing on an inter-office memo that folks may find interesting…  For those who don’t know this particular rock, 99942 Apophis is a near-Earth asteroid that caused a brief period of concern in 2004 because initial observations indicated a probability of up to 2.7% that it would strike the Earth in 2029.  While the chance of an impact in 2029 has not been ruled out, we’re still unable to rule out with certainty that will remain the case in later orbits.
