Tavi Greiner was nominated for a Shorty Award in the #education category, and is currently in 9th place! Her nomination helps acknowledge astronomy outreach as education. If she were to win an award, it would be a large step toward confirming the importance of astronomy as a science, and the outreach as a way of helping others - especially children - appreciate the world and universe around all of us.
Also... Astronomy.FM has been nominated for Shorty Award in #astronomy, and is currently in 2nd place!
The Shorty Awards honor the best people and organizations on Twitter. These unique awards are for the Twitter community, by the Twitter community. Online voting is public and democratic, culminating in an awards ceremony in New York to recognize the winners.
We all know that Tavi is a Twitter dynamo when it comes to sharing astronomy insights and information. She strongly believes that learning about the universe beyond our planet will help us better appreciate the world in which we live. Tavi wrote at ASFOS, "I am hoping to spark a curiosity to look beyond the beauty, to learn more about the what, why, and how."
If you are a Twitter user, an easy way to learn more about the Shorty Awards and cast your vote is to click here - which takes you to the voting page for Tavi. You can also help to promote Space in other categories by casting votes for Astronomy.FM in #astronomy, @flyingjenny and @NewburyAS in the #science category and a vote for @NASA in the #government category!
