This nebulosity area is located at about 4000 ly far, the dark nebula is about 200 ly long and the red "Cocoon", with embedded IC5146 open cluster, is about 15 ly diameter.
In this area three types of nebulas are present:
Dark (Barnard 168);
Emission (Cocoon);
Reflection (light blu/gray area around Cocoon barely visible on this wide field picture);
Image taken on 18/08/09 at ATA observatory, Vivaro (Rome - Italy) under suburban sky.
