amazing detail how many panels is your mosaic and how many frames did you have to take to go this deep?

Sharpless-2 240 is a large object of about 3x3 degrees. It was a 4 image mosaic with my 6" APO refractor at both f8 and f5 (focal reducer) using a SBIG 6303e large chip camera. As I recall it was around 3 hours of total exposure through each of the LRGB filters plus a bit of Ha. Registration was solved with Registar...without it this never would have worked out. Biggest problem was balancing the individual panels to each other and getting stars in correct registration...mosaics are a pain.

The Sharpless-2 (compiled by Stewart Sharpless) catalog is a great resource for imagers...it is all HII regions (emission nebula) which are show pieces for images using Ha type filters. Some of the objects are repeats of those in other catalogs like M-8, M-20, Veil Nebula, but a lot of other great ones. The list has 313 objects so enough to keep you busy for a long time.
