The Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) allows us to see the moon as we’ve never seen it before. Brooke Hsu and Brian Day will give us an update on the LRO and tell us why the LRO is so exciting. Brooke Hsu, Education and Public Outreach Lead for LRO at Goddard Space Flight Center, Maryland, is a geologist and educator by training and a science geek at heart. She enjoys sharing NASA science with as wide an audience as possible. Brian Day, at NASA Ames in California, is the Education and Public Outreach Lead for the Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite (LCROSS) Mission.

Under British Skies Solar Special

Sunday, May 16th, 2010

In this evening program we are covering most aspects of our Sun. One rare major event occurred on June 8, 2004, which was the transit of Venus. I was privileged to observe this with members of Croydon Astronomical Society at RAF Kenley, 14 miles South of the City of London. More on this tonight, but here are many pictures we took of the transit.

The Day Spock Beamed into the Mullard Space Science Laboratories (MSSL)

Recently I was invited to visit MSSL, in the heart of the Surrey Hill, 35 miles South of the City of London. The building was originally owned by the Guinness family.

It became evident in early 1960′s that space science section of UCL was outgrowing its premises. A donation by the Mullard Company, led to the purchase of the house, which was renamed MSSL.

MSSL is part of University College London (UCL).

I was shown around by Dr Lucie Green, a Solar Scientist. Here are some images taken around MSSL.

Lucie kindly gave me an interview which you can hear during this months show or rebroadcast as a podcast.
